Catalan Sheepdogs
Catalan Sheepdogs are a breed of Catalan Pyrenean dog used as a sheepdog. The
breed is very rare in the USA, mostly being bred in Europe, especially Spain, Finland, Germany, and Sweden.
Catalan Sheepdogs Appearance
Catalan Sheepdogs range in size from 18 to 20 in (46 to 51 cm) in height and 45 to 60 lb (20 to 27 kg) in weight for males,
with females being smaller. Their coat is long and either flat or slightly wavy, and can be from fawn to dark sable and light to dark grey.
There is also a short haired version of this breed, but is nearly extinct.
Catalan Sheepdogs Temperament
Catalan Sheepdogs are apparently so clever that they guard sheep without needing the instructions of the
farmer. They can be prone to hip dysplasia. Their average life span is 12 to 14 years. Catalan Sheepdogs
are used for herding and even as a companion.
